In 2024, I was invited by the Goethe-Institut Rio de Janeiro to develop a season of GoeTube, a YouTube channel dedicated to German-language literature. I decided to conduct interviews with leading figures in the German-language comics scene. As the curator, I selected five comics artists who had at least one book published in Brazil. The interviewees were, in this order, Reinhard Kleist, Barbara Yelin, Isabel Kreitz, Mawil, and Ulli Lust. The sixth and final interview was with Lea Hübner, who translates Brazilian comics into German.
The interviews were recorded in February 2024 and published every two weeks in the second half of the same year, starting in September. The conversations were held in German, and the Portuguese subtitles were developed in a workshop with students, led by Carina Schumann, then a DAAD lecturer at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
The episodes range from 13 to 20 minutes in length. Below, you can watch the first episode, featuring comics artist Reinhard Kleist.
